Since 1973, The National Wild Turkey Federation along with its volunteers, partners, and sponsors, have worked for the conservation of the wild turkey and preservation of the hunting tradition. At this time NWTF was established, there were only 1.3 million wild turkeys. Today that number stands at more than seven million birds throughout North America, and hunting seasons have been established in 49 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico. The Sate of Nebraska is proud to say that we have been involved with the NWTF though local chapters since 1992 starting with the Northwest Nebraska Chapter in Rushville . We have estimated 150 thousand birds in our state that include Merriam, Rio, Eastern and Hybrid of the Merriam/Rio cross. Please take time to browse through our web site and learn more about the NWTF in our great state of Nebraska.
